What is virtual music therapy?
Virtual Music Therapy is a virtual therapeutic solution provided by a board-certified music therapist with Music Speaks. The music therapist will use purposeful music and music therapy techniques to meet the needs of our clients.
Who can benefit from virtual music Therapy?
Many people! Virtual music therapy can benefit individuals who are experiencing the following and more:
what does a vMt session look like?
During a virtual music therapy session, the client will be connected online with a Music Speaks Board-Certified Music Therapist for an experience that includes music-making, singing, movement, and interventions specifically focused on providing an organized sensory interaction. Because the session is live and not recorded, the music therapist will be able to assess the client and adjust the music and interventions as needed in real-time, thus making each session tailored to the client’s needs.
What if we don’t have access to instruments? can the client still receive services?
Yes! Our therapists are creative and can work with you to find solutions using the materials you do have available to you. They can also make recommendations for budget friendly instruments, if shown during a session to have a positive effect on the client and their progress towards their goals.
Can Caregivers be involved in the session?
Yes; in fact, we encourage caregivers to participate in these sessions if they are able to be in the same room as the client. By being actively involved, caregivers can learn how to use similar techniques to work with the client in-between sessions. Music therapists will also use session time as an opportunity to communicate with the caregiver about the client’s needs, goals, and interventions.
