Stephanie Johnson, MT-BC, NMT-Fellow

Stephanie is the founder, owner, and CEO of Music Speaks, LLC and Internship Director of the Music Speaks internship. She graduated from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa with a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy, and later trained as a Neurologic Music Therapist Fellow. Stephanie serves as the chair of the Iowa Music Therapy Task Force, passing legislation in 2021 to recognize music therapy as a profession in the state. She is current on the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) Standards of Clinical Practice Committee.
In 2015, she was honored with a Changemaker Award from the AMTA. In 2020, she received both the Ad Astra Music Therapy Advocacy Award and the Award of Merit from AMTA.

Christina Scheperle, MA, MT-BC

Christina is an Internship Supervisor in Southern Wisconsin at Music Speaks. Christina earned her Master of Arts in music therapy from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA and her Bachelor of Music in violin performance from Truman State University in Kirksville, MO. She completed her internship at MusicWorx in San Diego. Christina also received training in NICU music therapy and Neurologic Music Therapy. Christina has experience working with a wide variety of populations, including: schools/autism-specific, hospice, hospital, NICU, behavioral disorders, and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities.

Maggie BRown, MT-BC, NICU MT

Maggie is the California Internship Supervisor at Music Speaks. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy from the University of Western Illinois in Macomb, Illinois. Maggie is also certified as a NICU Music Therapist. Before Music Speaks, she worked as the sole music therapist at a facility, and has vast experience educating and advocating for the field.

McKenna Smith, MT-BC, WMTR

McKenna an the Internship Supervisor in Southern Wisconsin at Music Speaks. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy from Alverno College in Milwaukee, WI. McKenna has an additional bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. McKenna has experience working in many settings in music therapy including hospice, memory care, and children with developmental and intellectual disabilities. 

Riley Jarrells, MT-BC

Riley is the Immersion Month Supervisor for the Music Speaks Internship Program. Riley earned her bachelor's of music in music therapy and minor in psychology from Radford University in Radford, Virginia. She completed her internship at Able ARTS Work in Long Beach, California. Riley has experience working with children (3-6 years old) and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
